Why do we use holly and berries on all of our Rolled Cotton People™? There is much symbolism in the Holly Tree. The deep green leaves and the bright red berries of the holly tree bring cheer and hope for brighter days amidst winter’s cold, white drabness. The Holly leaf’s prickly edges point to the crown of thorns worn by Jesus. The red berries symbolize the blood Jesus shed to give new and everlasting life. Holly trees, being evergreen, bloom against the stillness of the ground lying dormant under a blanket of snow and themselves symbolize new life.
At the turn of the 20th century Father Christmas (Santa Claus) wore a sprig of holly in his hood as he brought good cheer and hope to families at Christmas Time.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
